What a 1926 Office Building Taught Me About Buying on More Than Price

I'm the office administrator for a 68-person engineering consultancy. I am not saying the cheapest quote never wins. I am saying that a low price only counts if it survives contact with the real building. A quote that includes poor preparation, the wrong part, or no spare-parts plan isn't cheaper—it's just a down payment on a more expensive problem.

Now I ask three questions before approving any service:

What exactly is included in this price? What happens if the job doesn't go as planned? And who is accountable when something goes wrong?

The suppliers who treated us like a real client, even though we are a small one, earned our trust. The restoration studio did it with a cracked panel of stained glass. The thyssenkrupp service team did it with an old elevator in a small building. Small doesn't mean unimportant—it means potential.
